Unnatural Ways, Throwaway, Subatlantic Songs
UNNATURAL WAYS is a three piece American band formed in 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Ava Mendoza. The group calls Brooklyn, NY home, where it plays many local shows each year. UW also keeps busy on the road and has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe, often surrounding festival performances such as the Moers Festival (Germany), Victoriaville/FIMAV (Canada), and Jazz em Agosto (Portugal). The band has two full length albums on labels Tzadik and New Atlantis, and a third pending release on Sleeping Giant Glossolalia.
Throwaway is the art rock project of guitarist and composer Kirsten Carey. Their debut album, What?, was released in summer of 2019, and they have been bringing their angular, catchy songs all around the US.
subatlantic songs is a theatrical performance for amplified double bass and voice by Ben Willis.
“When I was listening, I saw a desert that was apocalyptically dark and swampy and mossy, and there was this glowing storm that was approaching and it was causing dust to rise from all the dead or, if not, prehistoric animals, first the birds, then the skeletons on the ground, and then the colonies of beetles underground, and they were coming back to life and they knew the approaching storm was going to destroy them but it was also bringing them back to life, so it was all strangely beautiful for them.” -Rachel Epperly
