Neal Anderson Quintet at Ziggy’s
Neal Anderson is a trumpeter, improviser, and composer based in Ann Arbor, MI. Neal actively performs as both a band leader and member across southeast Michigan, often blending combinations of jazz, funk, Balkan, and avant-garde styles to create exciting, energetic, and inevitably engaging music.
Parallel Fifths, Anderson’s debut album, marks a bold foray into modern Jazz via an eight track exploration that pays melodic homage to Lee Morgan and Roy Hargrove while establishing a wistful, sometimes playful, but always thoughtfully distinctive voice of his own.
The Neal Anderson Quintet, comprised of creative and dynamic musicians based in Chicago, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit, will debut Neal’s latest compositions along with performing songs from Parallel Fifths.
Neal Anderson earned a BFA in Jazz Performance from the University of Michigan, where he studied improvisation, composition, and performance with Bill Lucas, Andrew Bishop, and Robert Hurst.
